Omron Healthcare and AliveCor Collaborate for Heart Health
Two Companies Committed to Taking Care of the Heart at Home Join Forces
LAKE FOREST, Ill. and SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. (Dec. 9, 2014) – Omron Healthcare, Inc. and AliveCor, Inc., two respected companies in the heart health category, announced today a collaboration that aims to change the way lifesaving products are brought to market. Omron and AliveCor will be working together to make remote patient monitoring products more accessible through online and retail channels for people with heart conditions who are working to manage their heart health at home.
For more than 40 years, Omron has manufactured the number one doctor and pharmacist-recommended home blood pressure monitors available, and has secured mass distribution for its innovative products. The AliveCor® Heart Monitor lets people check their heart rhythm and rate anywhere and anytime, and is the first FDA-cleared smartphone electrocardiogram (ECG) that has the ability to instantly detect a serious heart condition in an ECG.
“Today people have sophisticated, user-friendly home products available to help them decrease their risk of stroke and heart attack,” said Ranndy Kellogg, chief operating officer, Omron Healthcare. “Yet, Americans are not taking care of their number one organ – their heart. By teaming with AliveCor, another global mobile health leader, we will show how simple it is to take care of your heart at home.”
Studies show that at home blood pressure monitoring has helped reduce the risk of heart attack and stroke (1). In fact, monitoring at home is just as accurate as in the doctor’s office (2). The American Heart Association suggests that blood pressure taken at home gives a more reliable representation of your blood pressure over time. By monitoring blood pressure, heart rate and heart rhythm at home regularly, in conjunction with regular doctor visits, you can consistently get an accurate picture of your heart’s health.
“Hypertension is the most common risk factor for heart arrhythmia's like atrial fibrillation, so it is not surprising that more than half of AliveCor’s customers are regularly monitoring and tracking their blood pressure,” said Euan Thomson, president and chief executive officer at AliveCor. “We are committed to working with Omron because mobile health has gone beyond just recording and displaying heart metrics, patients are now working with their doctors to correlate what symptoms, activities and behaviors may be impacting their health. Together, Omron and AliveCor can make that a more seamless and consumer friendly experience.”
